There are only around 30 days remaining to the opening of the shopping centre BahnhofCity Wien Hauptbahnhof at the Vienna Central Station and the preparations are in full swing: some 900 workers are currently working on the completion of the interior, with a particular focus on heating, cooling, ventilation and sanitary systems.
The BahnhofCity shopping centre has been specifically designed for the needs of rail passengers, residents and visitors, who will find popular shops and brands here. Most businesses have already begun to set up their shops. The ÖBB BahnhofCity Wien Hauptbahnhof is an environmentally friendly alternative to the shopping centres on the outskirts of the city.
Among the food stores and restaurants that will open their doors here are Interspar, L’Osteria, Felber, Ströck, BäckereiHeberer, Anker, McDonalds, Burger King, Starbucks and KonditoreiOberlaa. Fashion retailers that will be opening stores here include New Yorker, Deichmann, Calzedonia, Tezenis, Promod and Intimissimi. A Hervis branch will be of particular interest to sports enthusiasts. The health and beauty stores and book stores Müller Drogerie, Marionnaud, dmdrogeriemarkt, Thalia, Libro as well as press&books will round off the range of available shops. In addition, there will be a pharmacy, several bank branches and a TUI Travel Centre.
The new Vienna Central Station is one of the largest infrastructure projects in Austria.
The building of the Vienna Central Station will open on 10 October 2014. Coinciding with the introduction of new timetables, the first long-distance trains will start stopping at the Vienna Central Station on 14 December 2014. However, the Vienna Central Station will only become a fully operational international transport hub from December 2015 when the rail infrastructure will be completed.
